ABOUT US

Founded by Julia Klein in 2009, Soberscove grew out of a desire to make little-known art historical documents accessible to a non-specialist audience. While the focus has broadened beyond art history, the majority of our books continue to foreground documentary and archival materials that offer alternative approaches to familiar subjects and histories, illuminate process, and reorients the peripheral. Soberscove books tend to engage with subjects that have not gotten due attention, have fallen out of memory or fashion, and/or are ripe for a new kind of engagement. Collaboration with artists is central to our work.

Soberscove donates a percentage of all of our print runs to the A.R.T. Library Program which offers topical, high quality books on modern and contemporary art to public institutions, free of charge, for audiences that might not otherwise have access to museums, galleries, or art book stores.
